Terms of Service

These terms are a plain-English agreement between you and Best By. By using the app you agree to them.

What Best By is

Best By helps you track groceries and estimate when they expire. You can scan receipts, share a household fridge with others, and get reminders.

Expiry dates are estimates

This matters: expiry dates in Best By are estimates based on typical shelf lives, brand information, and your own corrections. They are not a food-safety guarantee. Always use your judgment — look at it, smell it, check the printed date. If food seems off, don't eat it, whatever the app says. Best By is not liable for spoiled food or illness.

Your account

• You need to be at least 13 years old.
• Keep your sign-in method secure; you're responsible for activity on your account.
• You can delete your account at any time in Settings.

Households

When you join a household, other members can see and edit the items in it. Only invite people you trust, and don't add content that's unlawful or abusive.

Acceptable use

Don't abuse the service — no attempting to break in, overload, reverse-engineer, or use the receipt-scanning feature for anything other than your own receipts. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service.

The service is provided as-is

We work hard to keep Best By reliable, but it's provided "as is", without warranties. To the maximum extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the last 12 months (which, for a free app, is zero).

Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be shown in the app. Continuing to use Best By after a change means you accept it.
